What Is a .cvclk File? How to Open and Import It
A .cvclk file is a BUG Clicker desktop pet character: its pictures, name, lines and speech bubbles in one file. See what is inside yours, and why it might not import.

A .cvclk file is a character for BUG Clicker, the desktop pet app for Windows and Mac. It holds everything about one character in a single file: its pictures, name, lines and speech bubbles. Only BUG Clicker opens it: drop it into the app's Share tab.

Drop a .cvclk below to check it before you import. It tells you whether BUG Clicker will take the file and, for unlocked files, shows the character and what comes with it.

What a .cvclk holds
- Pictures: the body, the faces it switches between (normal, pressed, blinking), back and side hair, and extra pictures.
- Name and lines: what it says when you click it, what it says on its own, and alarm, water, medicine and to-do reminders.
- Speech bubbles: the bubble's shape and colours, per-line styles and the small stickers on its corners.
- Feel and motion: how it squashes when pressed and how it moves to music or typing.
- Parts: ears, tails, wings and head-top dolls.
- The creator's name, which can't be changed after import.
Two kinds of .cvclk file
- Unlocked file: made by bugclicker.org and older app versions. It imports, the viewer above can preview it, and it can be exported again.
- Protected file: made by the BUG Clicker app since version 1.11.1. It imports the same way, but its pictures are encrypted, so nothing can preview it outside BUG Clicker. It can be exported again only if its creator allowed it.
A protected file is normal. Most characters shared on X are protected, and they import just like the rest.
How to open a .cvclk file
- Open BUG Clicker's settings: right-click your pet, or use its icon in the tray (Windows) or the menu bar (Mac).
- Open the Share tab.
- Drop the .cvclk into the box, or click Choose file, then click Import.

Why a .cvclk won't open
- It's a .zip. Unzip it first, then import the .cvclk inside.
- The name ends in something else. Browsers sometimes save it as
.txtor with no ending. Rename it to end in.cvclk. - It's a saved web page. Saving the download page gives you HTML, not the character. Use the post's download button.
- It's a .cvpart. That's a single part, like ears or a hat. Add it in Character Studio → Parts, not the Share tab.
- Imported, but not on the desktop? It's in your list: open the Characters tab and pick it. See character disappeared.

Where to find .cvclk characters
Creators usually share them on X with a short video and a download link. Search #BUGclicker or the character's name with "bug clicker". Download from the creator's own post, follow their notes (some ask you to turn on ears and tails), and respect what they allow: some ask you not to share their file anywhere else.
Make your own .cvclk
Turn a photo of your pet into a character with the AI pet maker, or build one from your own drawings with the PSD maker. Both hand you a .cvclk ready to import.
FAQ
What program opens a .cvclk file?
Only BUG Clicker, the desktop pet app for Windows and Mac. Open its settings, go to the Share tab and drop the file in. Photoshop, image viewers and archive tools can not open it.
Can I open a .cvclk file in Notepad?
Files exported by the BUG Clicker app are encrypted, so a text editor only shows scrambled bytes. Unlocked files, like the ones made on bugclicker.org, are plain text, but the pictures inside are long blocks of encoded data. Use the viewer on this page instead.
Does the same .cvclk work on Windows and Mac?
Yes. A character file is the same on both, so a Windows user can share one with a Mac user.
Is a .cvclk file safe?
It holds pictures, text and sometimes a sound, never a program. BUG Clicker checks that each picture really is a picture before it uses it. Download characters from the creator's own post, not from re-uploads.
Can I turn a .cvclk back into a PSD?
Only for characters made on bugclicker.org: the PSD maker page can rebuild the layered PSD. Files exported by the BUG Clicker app are protected, and their pictures belong to their artists.
