BUG Clicker Won't Download or Open? Fix the Warnings
Get past "isn't commonly downloaded", .crdownload files, "Windows protected your PC" and antivirus blocks when downloading BUG Clicker, and slow GitHub.

BUG Clicker is a new, unsigned app from a solo developer, so browsers and Windows treat it with caution. None of these warnings means a virus was found. Here is how to get through each one safely.
Only download from the official GitHub pages linked in our download guide. The developer asks people not to download copies posted elsewhere.
"BUG-Clicker.exe isn't commonly downloaded"
This browser warning only means few people have downloaded the file so far. In Edge or Chrome:
- Open the downloads list (Ctrl + J).
- Click ··· next to the file, then Keep.
- Click Show more, then Keep anyway.
The wording differs a little between browsers.
The file ends in ".crdownload"
That is a download that did not finish. Do not open it. Delete it and download again.
"Windows protected your PC"
Click More info, then Run anyway. This appears once because the app has no code signature yet. The first launch can take about 30 seconds, so wait instead of clicking again.
Antivirus removed or blocked it
Some antivirus programs block new unsigned apps, or block the keyboard detection used for typing reactions. Restore the file from quarantine and add BUG-Clicker.exe as an exception. If you are unsure, check the file's source again: it should come from github.com/BUG-INVADE.
GitHub is very slow or will not open
On some networks, including many in mainland China, GitHub downloads can be slow or fail. Try again later or on another network. We do not recommend copies on file-sharing sites or cloud drives: you cannot tell whether they were changed.
You only need to download once. After that BUG Clicker updates itself: it checks every 6 hours and installs the new version the next time it starts (Settings → About → Updates).
On a Mac
The Mac version shows "cannot be verified" the first time. Our Mac guide shows where to click. Also note that Mac 1.2.0 cannot install through auto-update: download the new dmg from Settings → About → Updates → Download and replace the app in Applications. Your characters stay.
